Many of the neighborhoods within the ITID jurisdiction have active equestrians. In the interests of community harmony and resident safety we ask that riders and non-riders review the following.

As a motorist you should know:

• To watch out for horses being led or driven on the road
• To leave as much space as possible to allow for unexpected movements by the horse
• To take extra care on bends, crests and on narrow roads
• To slow down when passing a horse so your vehicle does not startle them
• To not use your car horn around horses
• To understand that there are inexperienced riders out there

As an equestrian you should know:

• To know and obey the rules of the road
• To use clear hand signals
• To wear an approved protective gear, including helmets & high visibility clothing
• To always ‘look, check, and look again’
• Inexperienced riders - to always be accompanied by experienced rider

As a property owner you should know:

• To watch out for horses being led or driven on the road when you are working in your yard
• To move away from the horses or temporarily turn off any loud equipment being operated near the roadway so as not to startle the horse
