Do's and Don'ts

TIPS FROM ITID ABOUT YOUR SWALES (3)

  • Swales
    • Swales convey water to the canals and are also part of Indian Trail’s stormwater storage capacity.
    • Swales take several days to weeks to drain.
    • Groundwater also migrates into the swales which adds to the time it takes for the swales to completely drain.
    • Don’t fill in the swale with dirt or block driveway culverts.
    • No chlorinated pool, water system, or other non-drainage water allowed.
    • Driveways – Please contact Indian Trail to obtain driveway specifications and permit prior to installing a driveway.
    • No obstructions allowed (landscaping, trees, fences, ornamental structures, etc.) Only permitted driveways, sod, and mailboxes are allowed in the swale easements.
  • Canals
    • No irrigation pipes allowed.
    • No trespassing (vehicle, ATV, foot traffic).
    • Gates – Homeowner gates are encouraged on canal banks to prevent trespassing. Please contact Indian Trail to obtain gate specifications and gate permit prior to installing gate.
    • Parked cars, debris piles, and other obstructions  - Please keep canal easements cleared so the mowers can properly maintain the area.
  • Roads
    • Indian Trail has 5 graders throughout Indian Trail grading roads at all times. Depending on weather conditions, it takes 2 weeks to grade every road in Indian trail.
    • Parked cars, trash/recycle containers, and debris piles  - Please keep roads clear so the graders can properly maintain Indian Trail roadways.
